Whether to build a new skill or to become more independent, Michael discussed AI as a tool for many children, while also creating a space where children are protected.

Michael discussed the laptop donations his organization has received and how children are empowered to use technology in responsible ways that can help them beyond their lives at children’s homes.

Creating Opportunities Through Technology

Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology are transforming how people learn, develop skills, and prepare for the future. For children growing up in institutional care, access to these technologies can open doors to educational and career opportunities.

YouMeWe NPO is a Tokyo-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young people in children's homes prepare for independent adulthood. Its programs focus on developing essential skills, including digital literacy, communication, and career readiness.

Through educational support, mentoring, and access to technology, YouMeWe aims to help young people build the confidence and practical skills needed to pursue higher education, employment, and greater independence.

Bridging the Digital Divide Through Laptop Donations

Access to digital technology is an important first step toward creating more inclusive educational opportunities.

YouMeWe NPO works with corporate partners and volunteers to provide laptops and digital learning opportunities to children living in institutional homes across Japan.

According to YouMeWe, its initiatives have helped deliver more than 1,000 laptops, supporting young people as they complete school assignments, explore career pathways, and develop essential computer skills.

However, access to devices alone is not enough. Learning how to use technology effectively and responsibly is equally important.

By combining digital access with practical education and mentoring, nonprofit initiatives like YouMeWe's can help young people develop skills that remain valuable long after they leave children's homes.

Why AI Literacy Matters for Children's Future

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into education and the workplace, AI literacy and digital skills are becoming essential for future learning and career development.

AI literacy goes beyond knowing how to use AI-powered tools. It also involves understanding their limitations, critically evaluating AI-generated information, protecting personal data, and making responsible decisions online.

For children preparing for independent adulthood, these skills can support:

  • Independent learning: Exploring educational resources and developing new skills.

  • Digital confidence: Using technology effectively for everyday tasks and future opportunities.

  • Critical thinking: Evaluating information rather than relying on AI-generated answers without question.

  • Online safety: Understanding privacy, digital responsibility, and potential risks.

Educators, caregivers, nonprofit organizations, and training providers all have a role to play in creating safe and supportive environments for digital learning.

The goal is not simply to introduce new technologies, but to help young people develop the knowledge and confidence to use them responsibly.

Connecting Global Expertise with Meaningful Learning

At NobleCamps, we believe that meaningful education goes beyond transferring knowledge. It is about creating opportunities for people to develop practical skills, exchange ideas, and prepare for a rapidly changing world.

As a global corporate training provider, NobleCamps brings together industry experts, educators, business leaders, and professionals through hands-on learning experiences and international knowledge-sharing opportunities.

Our approach emphasizes experiential learning, practical skill development, and connecting people with perspectives from different industries and communities.

Hosting speakers such as Michael Perry-Clemons creates opportunities to explore how emerging technologies are being applied beyond traditional business environments, including in nonprofit organizations and children's education.

These conversations offer valuable perspectives on the broader social impact of AI and the importance of making technology education accessible, responsible, and inclusive.

Looking Ahead: AI for a More Inclusive Future

AI has the potential to expand access to education, support independent learning, and create new pathways for personal and professional development.

However, realizing these opportunities requires more than technological innovation. It also depends on digital literacy, responsible AI practices, and collaboration among educators, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

YouMeWe NPO's work highlights the importance of combining access to technology with the practical skills and ongoing support young people need to build their futures.

At NobleCamps, we remain committed to connecting people, sharing expertise, and fostering learning experiences that inspire meaningful growth.

A heartfelt thank you to Michael Perry-Clemons and YouMeWe NPO for sharing their experiences and valuable insights with the NobleCamps community.
